Amy Charmatz

"My art has been shaped by the process of living my life, and now, my art shapes my life"

I am an artist with disabilities - self-taught- who believes very strongly in the positive impact art has on physical and mental health. . I have been fighting a continuous battle to control my body, due to the effects of several brain operations, and I have "survived" a lengthy period of clinical depression.

My paintings are brightly colored images of people, animals and patterns and are contemporary, yet primitive. All are somewhat autobiographical in nature. and each contains a caption expressing feelings and "truths" that I have learned, and am still learning,, in my life.

My work has appeared at the Smithsonian Institute, the Kennedy Center, the Outsider Art Show, the American Folk Art Museum, Johnson and Johnson, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey and other galleries throughout the country

I have a very personal feeling about my work and have named my entire collection "Art Saves Lives", because I believe that it really saved mine. My paintings are truly "My Realities"..
